Life is like a box of chocolates.
But... you see.. I'm a diabetic.
I can't eat what they call
fear or shame or insecurities
It upsets my stomach.
You see, I'm what they call...
a shameless vigilante.
I fight for those who fear themselves.
I run through the halls
fighting the silent terrors
that plague us all
And to think...
Those terrors are some of the chocolates of life themselves.
Now, if these fears and embarrassments and humiliations
are the highwaymen of life
then I say
NO ALIBI!
NO JUSTICE!
NO GLORY!
These are the opiates of the masses,
the chains that hold us back
from happiness
from freedom
from escaping everyday misery
and becoming
shameless.
Now, life may be a box of chocolates
but I won't eat that poison.
Whether its sweet
or not.
But... you see.. I'm a diabetic.

I have to do a project for my rhetoric class where we pick a poem, memorize it and recite it in class. I couldn't find anything I liked... So, I wrote one instead!
The whole purpose of it is about how I try to be shameless and not be affected by shame or embarrassment. Ironically, the first two lines of the poem were some random crap a guy in my Latin class said when I asked him how to start writing a poem. And... yeah I got this. xD
Any advice on making it better? Transitions, sentences that suck, the ending maybe? xD" - February 7, 2012
